Most remakes and reboots tend to be streaming service nostalgia slop, and fans usually have a wealth of valid concerns when a beloved series is brought back from the dead. Chief among them is the worry that the integrity of the characters we once knew won’t be maintained. If the recently released poster for the King of the Hill revival is any indication of what’s to come, fans could be in for a season of disappointment.
Yesterday, the series’ official Twitter unveiled a promotional poster that depicted noted conspiracist Dale Gribble donning a VR headset and puffing on a vape. As expected, King of the Hill loyalists couldn’t wait to voice their displeasure, writing off the notion as “bullshit,” and countering with what Dale would actually be doing: making credible threats to politicians online and smoking analog cigarettes, as God intended.
As shake-ups go, Chris Parnell was a recent guest on The Patrick LabyorSheaux with Patrick Labyorteaux, and discussed Justin Roiland being fired following allegations of behind-the-scenes misconduct and sexual harassment. “There was a big cast and production Zoom meeting — at least one, maybe more than one — where everybody got on to talk about it,” Parnell explained. “And it was heavy. A lot of people were, understandably, very upset about what had happened. And we are also all worried about the fate of the show. Like, are we going to get to keep doing this?”
Thankfully, the show went on, and the same can be said for the hilarious people on the timeline who keep on tweeting. Today’s funniest posts include those about a beaver’s drive-thru order, a romantic place to kiss and how the Pope is just like us.
